Functional Diagnostic Testing

Functional diagnostic testing takes an individual-centric approach to medicine. This sets it apart from the medical model, which takes a disease-centered focus. What does this mean? It means that rather than focusing on treatments for a disease and its symptoms, it focuses on your individual condition and looks for the underlying causes. Diagnostic testing investigates hidden healing opportunities within the hormone, immune, digestion, detoxification, energy and nervous systems. The data collected by objective and subjective assessments are then used to guide treatment protocols - created collectively between the practitioner and the client - based on their lab work, wants, needs and lifestyle.

Food Intolerance Testing:

Food allergy is an IgE immune system response that is typically characterized by hives, shortness of breath, upset stomach and in some cases anaphylaxis. The most common food allergies are to nuts, shellfish, wheat and dairy. According to the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, only about 4% of the United States population has a food allergy. The ALCAT Test does not detect Food Allergy.

Food intolerance, on the other hand, is much more common than food allergies and is characterized by digestive disorders, migraines, obesity, chronic fatigue, aching joints, skin disorders and behavioral issues. It has been stated that upwards of 70-80% of the US population has food intolerance. Unfortunately for many, those food intolerance symptoms are often identified as individual problems and treated as such, thus treating the symptoms and not the cause. The Alcat Test is now considered the, “gold standard” laboratory method for identification of non-IgE mediated reactions to foods, chemicals, and other substances.

This panel tests for 250 food intolerances that can activate the immune system. It measures changes in size and volume of white blood cells in response to challenges with foods. This is a tolerance test, not an allergy test.

D.U.T.C.H. (Dried Urine Test Comprehensive Hormone Panel)

DUTCH is an acronym that stands for Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones. It is a simple, but sophisticated test that looks not just at your hormones, but how your body processes and metabolizes them.

The DUTCH test looks not just at your reproductive hormones (although it does look at those quite thoroughly), but it also looks at your stress hormones, your androgens (male pattern hormones), your melatonin and the new DUTCH test also looks at organic acids – markers for mood and nutritional balance in the body.

What Our Clients Say

Lara R.

I have been working with Havilande for about 3 months and my life has changed. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last year and was on a number of medications. 7 to be exact. Since working with her, I have been able to come off all but one by testing through functional labs, changing my diet and my attitude. Being able to combine life, fitness and nutrition into one person has been just what I have needed to start making positive changes. I am much more equipped to handle life's stressors and am now able to communicate my needs better. Very grateful.
